Jesus said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
One of the common theories that tries to dispell that Jesus rose from the dead is the hallucination theory. This theory suggests that those who saw Jesus after his death and burial were hallucinating.
In his book, “Beyond Belief to Convictions”, Josh McDowell says that hallucinations have certain patterns. They are highly individualized and extremely subjective. It is rare for two persons to experience the same hallucinations at the same time. Jesus appeared at different times to different people. In fact, news of his resurrection was often greeted initially with skepticism, not only by Thomas, but other disciples as well.
First Corinthians 15 adds that Jesus appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at once, stating a compelling case against the hallucination theory. After Jesus’ disciples saw the risen Christ, they stopped doubting and believed.
